A student completing this course will understand advanced bookkeeping principles and concepts, the preparation of financial statements for sole traders and partnerships, and issues around indirect tax in business. All of this will be learned in the context of the ethical issues that a book-keeper may encounter in professional life. The Advanced Award in Bookkeeping with AAT is ideal for those who have the AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping qualification and who wish to further progress their studies to gain qualified bookkeeper status with AAT.

Course Content

Advanced Bookkeeping – Learn how to apply the principles of advanced double-entry bookkeeping, implement procedures for the acquisition and disposal of non-current assets, prepare and record depreciation calculations, record period end adjustments, and produce and extend the trial balance.

Final Accounts Preparation – Learn to distinguish between the financial recording and report requirements of different types of organization, explain the need for final accounts and the accounting and ethical principles underlying their preparation, manage accounts for sole traders and partnerships, and recognise the key differences between preparing accounts for a limited company and a sole trader.

Indirect Tax – In this course you will learn how to accurately complete VAT returns and submit them in a timely manner, understand the implications of errors for the business, document omissions and submit late filings and payment, and report VAT-related information within the organisation in accordance with regulatory and organisational requirements.

The Advanced Award in Bookkeeping with AAT is ideal for those who have the AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping qualification and who wish to further progress their studies to gain qualified bookkeeper status with AAT.

Students should have gained the AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping qualification.

The bookkeeping skills developed by studying this qualification will enable a student to seek employment with confidence and can lead to employment as a professional bookkeeper, a senior bookkeeper, an accounts manager, or a ledger manager. A student can also gain AAT qualified bookkeeper status to work as a freelance bookkeeper.
